Bringing Scotland's castles to the world through YouTube and Wikipedia

Sum awarded: £5,000

Archaeology Scotland and the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland are co-ordinating Dig It!, a celebration of Scotland’s heritage and archaeology.

The team will research the history of a group of castles in southern Scotland, script and produce a series of videos and run ‘editathons’ to improve Wikipedia’s coverage of these sites. YouTube has a billion users, and Wikipedia is the 5th most visited website in the world, meaning the play an important role in sharing information and enthusing the next generation of castle enthusiasts.

Though Scottish castles have been enjoying record visitor numbers, around half of the UK's population have yet to visit one of the more than 2,000 castles in Scotland.
